The Shift You Keep Making Everywhere Except Where It Actually Matters. (Sermon)

We are obsessed with change.

New year, new me.

New diet, new job, new city, new relationship, new haircut, new vibe.

We’ll fast carbs, pay trainers, move across the country, cut people off, add new people, hustle till we drop, all because we’re desperate to get “there.”

There.

That magical place where we’ll finally be happy, successful, at peace, fulfilled.

I was talking to my wife the other day and we both laughed because we realized something: everybody is trying to get to the same address. We just keep taking different highways that don’t actually lead there.

Because “there” is not a location.

“There” is a position.

It’s the spiritual posture of obedience, surrender, and intimacy with God.

You can change your zip code, your body fat percentage, your follower count, your tax bracket, and still feel empty when you lay your head down at night. Because you never made the one shift that actually moves the needle.

Matthew 6:33 is still in the Bible for a reason: Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Not seek them first and hope God tags along.

Seek Him first, and watch everything else fall in line.

We’re living backwards.

We treat spiritual growth like the optional side quest while we main-line the career, the image, the comfort. We’ll wake up at 5 a.m. for the gym but hit snooze on prayer. We’ll count macros but don’t count how many days it’s been since we opened the Word and let it read us. We’ll fast social media for a dopamine detox but won’t fast food to hear God’s voice.

Physical training is good, Paul said, but spiritual training profits everything.

You can have abs and anxiety.

You can have money and misery.

You can have the house, the spouse, the title, the likes, and still be starving on the inside.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

Not blessed are those who hunger for more money, more status, more comfort, more control, or followers.

What you’re hungry for is what you’re becoming.

So here’s the gut check.

You’ve shifted your address, your wardrobe, your friend group, your workout routine, maybe even your spouse.

But when’s the last time you shifted your altar time?

When’s the last time you let God shift your priorities, your pride, your plans?

You’ll never arrive “there” running everywhere except toward Him.

The peace you’re chasing is waiting in the secret place.

The purpose you’re grinding for is downloaded in prayer.

The power you’re trying to manufacture is released in obedience.

Stop rearranging the outside hoping the inside will finally feel fixed.

Make the shift that actually matters.

Seek Him first.

Hunger for Him hardest.

Obey Him fastest.

Because the “there” you’ve been killing yourself to reach has been inside His presence the whole time.

Who’s ready to stop running in circles and finally run to Him? Drop it below. I’m praying for every single one of us to make the shift from chasing “there” to living here, in the place called obedience, surrender, and intimacy with the One who is everything we’ve been looking for all along. The view from His presence beats any destination the world can offer.
